VRA restores power to all areas

Accra, April 22, GNA – Power has been restored to all areas affected by the disruption in supply resulting from system disturbances on Monday, a statement the Acting Director Corporate Services of Volta River Authority (VRA) signed on Tuesday said.

It said the disturbances were caused by major faults that occurred in the transmission system that also impacted on electricity production from the generating units at Akosombo; Kpong, Aboadze and Tema.

Ms Abla Fiadjoe, the Director, said the fault led to the automatic triggering of a special in-built protection mechanism to prevent damage to the transmission lines and the generation equipment.

She said the restoration process commenced immediately after the disruption of power supply in consonance with standard practice – both automatically and manually – until all the transmission lines and generating equipment were back to normal service.

The VRA apologised for the resultant inconvenience caused as a result of the disruption and thanked all customers for their understanding and cooperation. It also extended its appreciation to the Electricity Company of Ghana and Northern Electricity Department for their cooperation and support during the restoration process.
