Volta Regional Hospital ready for kidney related ailments

The Volta Regional Hospital can now deliver “cutting-edge” medical services to patients with kidney related ailments.

This follows the acquisition of a dialysis machine with a water treatment plant for the removal of excess water and waste products from damaged or dysfunctional kidneys.

Mama Attratoh II, Co-ordinator of Asogli Queen-mothers Association, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after the Association secured funding from GOIL Ghana Limited to procure water treatment equipment for the dialysis machine.

The Queen Mothers Association earlier in the year lobbied D.Med Healthcare AG Limited to provide four NIPRO Surdial 55+machines to the Regional Hospital.

The Hospital could not operate the equipment because of the absence of water treatment machine.

Mama Attratoh said the equipment would save kidney patients in the region the cost and risk of travelling to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital weekly for medical attention.

Dr John Tampuori, Medical Director, Volta Regional Hospital, earlier told the GNA that about nine patients with kidney related problems were referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital every month.

He said demand for the services of dialysis machines was high and its installation would help improve healthcare delivery in the Region.
