Voice of Islam organizes blood donation

Voice of Islam (VOI) group in collaboration with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital over the weekend organized a blood donation exercise in Tema.

The exercise, though organized by an Islamic group, was massively patronized by people from many other religious groups.

Alhaji Ibrahim Yaw Nkrumah, leader of VOI, said the culture of blood donation in the Tema area nearly faded away, but has now been revived to help those who have need of blood transfusion to survive.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr John Ahadji, Assistant Chief Blood Donor Recruiter, Accra Area Blood Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, said a simple test to determine if one is of sound mind, healthy, have enough blood to donate among others, is done before one is encouraged to donate.

Chocolate drinks were given to the donors after the exercise to help them regain part of the lost strength.
