The Director-General of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, ACP David Ocloo has bemoaned the level of political interference that is affecting their discharge of duties.
According to ACP Ocloo, the underhand dealings of politicians have greatly hindered their fight against vigilantism in the country.
Speaking to Accra based Joy FM, ACP Ocloo stated that the police fear of being tagged to be affiliated to a political group hence are handicap when it comes to clamping down on vigilantism.
‘’The fear of being tagged and political interference from people with political authorities from this country is our problem. We have also identified the inability of people who seems to be affected to help the police investigate case of this nature.’’ He stated.
Attacks on public institutions in the country has reached an alarming rate as in less than a week four state institutions have been invaded by vigilantes affiliated to the governing new patriotic party.
On Wednesday, October 24, youth group in Karaga attacked the District Chief Executive for giving appointment to aliens who have no connection with the NPP.
In less than 24 hours another youth group in the Sissala District of the Northern region also attacked the Sissala DCE Muhammed Bokor for appointing a coordinator for MASLOC instead of a collectively agreed person.
Over twenty acts of vigilantism have been recorded since NPP won.
However adding his voice to the development during an address to the Chiefs and people of Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region President Akufo-Addo on October 27 stated that even though he considers the developments as disturbing, his administration is poised to stop all forms of vigilantism in the country.
