Vice Chancellor urges students to focus on excellence

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, (UEW), has urged students in tertiary institutions to focus on high academic standards and work to grow the nation’s economy.

They should use the skills and knowledge acquired to assist in finding solutions to problems bedeviling the society.

Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw, speaking at the seventh matriculation ceremony (sandwich session) of the College of Agriculture Education, Asante-Mampong Campus of the University, said the expectation was that they would be reasonably independent in their thinking and their way of doing things.

A total of 849 students, made up of 497 males and 352 females, had been registered to pursue post graduate and under-graduate programmes in Agriculture, Science and Environment Education.

In all 1,222 students were offered admission by the College.

The Vice Chancellor said they would continue to work hard to nurture teaching and administrative competencies at the various levels of the educational system. With the university connected to the internet via satellite, students could visit academic sites regularly to update their knowledge in their field of study.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw advised the fresh students to take advantage of its computer-use policy to keep abreast of technological advances.

He reminded them to combine academic excellence with spiritual and moral uprightness.
