Valentine Book Reading to be held in Ghana

An innovative Valentine Book Reading event is to be held in Accra on Saturday February 14 to coincide with valentine day celebration, which is marked yearly worldwide.

The valentine book reading is a campaign launched to promote reading for pleasure among Ghanaians.

Dubbed “Love a book this Valentine” the special book reading event takes place at the Coconut Grove Hotel. It offers couples and patrons a lively evening of reading pleasure in a romantic ambience.

Launching it Mr Kwasi Gyan Appenteng, a member of the National Media Commission and President of the Ghana Association of Writers, said it was refreshing that the entertainment scene in Ghana was being enhanced to include book reading.

“Elsewhere, public readings and book signings are top notch events that receive distinguished patronage. As society is pushing for the consumption of made-in-Ghana goods; let’s not forget about made-in-Ghana books,” he said.

“Love a book this Valentine” runs between 1600 hours and 1900 hours, and involves six rounds of reading from the works of two accomplished Ghanaian authors, Kofi Akpabli, travel journalist and CNN Award-winning writer and Empi Baryeh, a multicultural romance novelist. The two authors will also autograph books bought.

Kofi Akpabli will read excerpts from his books, Romancing Ghanaland and Tickling the Ghanaian and Empi Baryeh will give a repertoire from Chancing Faith and Most Eligible Bachelor, both romantic novels.

According to both writers, the event aims to diversify the social offerings available to mark Valentine Day and showcase to the public that a literary event can be a viable way of celebrating the lovers’ day.
