The Assistant Headmistress Administration of Dorfor Senior High School at Juapong, Mrs. Angela Akpene Azar, has appealed for the provision of infrastructure to the academic facility to enable it serve the community and its environs better.
The school, which has a student population of more than 989, is currently being run on a rented premise and lacks many facilities essential to enhance teaching and learning.
She detailed the serious deficiencies, noting the school is completely without an ICT lab, appropriate classrooms—forcing some students to learn under trees—toilet facilities, a science lab, an assembly hall, a staff common room for the teachers, or a dining hall.
Madam Angela made this urgent appeal when the Bernadette Tender Heart Foundation NGO donated books to the students using the CEO’s personal resources.
The Assistant Headmistress further revealed that all the teaching staff, including herself, are living in rented accommodation far away from the school and are therefore unable to properly supervise the activities of the students.
Despite this challenging situation, the school has consistently achieved a 100 per cent success rate in the Senior High School Certificate Examination. Speaking with Accra fm/CTV news reporter Apelete Kofi Michel, Madam Angela expressed the strong hope that public-spirited persons interested in education would be touched by the school’s plight and come to its aid.
She acknowledged that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) had come to the school’s aid by building a 3-unit classroom block, but stressed that the academic facility still desperately needs help to relocate entirely to the new site where the classrooms are situated.
After presenting the books to the school authorities and the students, the CEO of Bernadette Tender Heart Foundation NGO, Madam Bernadette Larmbi, also speaking with reporter Apelete Kofi Michel, encouraged the students to maintain a clear vision and focus on their chosen careers.
She implored the students to take their studies seriously irrespective of the current severe challenges and appealed directly to the government and benevolent organizations to urgently come to the aid of Dorfor SHS.
Adding his voice to the appeal was Mr. Garish Kpeve, an old student for Dorfor Senior High School in Juapong, who supported the call for urgent intervention.
