Utility services accused of disturbing public peace

Ho, Aug 27, GNA – A social worker on Tuesday said loud noise, which accompany announcement utility companies make at dawn for payment of bills, disturb public peace and must be stopped.

Mr Kofi Gbedemah, who was speaking on “Civic responsibilities” at an award ceremony for constitutional Game winners, organised by the National Commission of Civic education (NCCE), said it is frustrating for a sick or an elderly person in bed at dawn to be “rudely stirred by loud speakers of utility companies”.

Mr Gbedeman said churches, and drumming groups are equally guilty of breaking the laws on noise making.

He suggested that people who organize parties that extend late into the night should also ensure that they do not disturb others. Mr Gbedemah called for a campaign to reduce the level of child labour in the country saying, it is said to see children selling iced water at public places.

Twelve organizations participated in the competition that was won by the Police Recruits Team. A disabled group was second, the Ghana Prisons came third and Ghana Immigration Service took the fourth position. The winning teams were given copies of abridged version of the Constitution, and certificates.

Inspector William Asare Ayensu, on behalf of the winners appealed to the NCCE to provide other incentives to generate interest of more people in the Constitution.
