The United States government is prepared to assist the government and people of Ghana in diverse ways, Madam Mary Yates, the United States Ambassador in Ghana said on Wednesday.
She said there was no question that Ghana now occupied a prominent position in the West Africa Sub-Region because of the peace and stability prevailing in the country.
Madam Yates said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiatives in Accra.
She said her government’s renewed interest in Ghana was substantially due to President Kufuor’s enhanced stature as a statesman.
She commended the President John Agyekum Kufuor for appointing Mr Alan Kyeremanten as the Minister of the Ministry because he forged a very cordial relationship between the United States and Ghana.
She recalled the various linkages that the Minister engineered whilst he was Ghana’s Ambassador to the US and expressed the hope that Mr Kyeremanten would use his contacts in US to further promote trade between the two countries.
The Minister thanked the Ambassador and in turn briefed her about the mission of the Ministry as the hub for the implementation of President Kufuor’s projects that would launch Ghana into the Golden Age of Business.
He explained the rationale behind the various initiatives, more particularly, the President’s Special Initiative on Garments and Textiles, Cassava, Palm Oil and Salt.
Ms Janice M. Bruce, Commercial Attach? and Ms Danielle Andrews, Economic Officer, accompanied the Ambassador.
