The US government is committed to partner Ghana end the country’s power challenges, the US Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Robert Porter Jackson, has assured.
“Unreliable and inadequate power stifles economic growth. If your business cannot operate due to lack of electricity, you cannot make a profit. If you have no profit, well, that’s the end of your business—and your employees’ incomes, as well. With the second Millennium Challenge compact, we’re investing $498 million to transform the power sector. We want to be part of the solution to ‘dumsor dumsor,’ he said.
Ghana is scheduled to receive US$497 million from the second Millennium Challenge Compact to prop up electricity supply courtesy President Obama’s Power Africa Initiative.
Addressing students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Mr Jackson said Ghana’s economic potential and growth was in no doubt, adding that the initiative is meant to help establish a thriving business environment for Ghanaian businesses to grow.
