New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has urged the 13 constituency executives who resigned from the party to rescind their decision in the interest of the party.
The 13 executives led by former constituency chairman, Theophilus Tetteh, announced their resignation from the party Friday night; less than 12 hours to the constituency primary that saw the re-election of Mrs Ekuful for a second time.
Their decision, they told TV3, stemmed from a disagreement over the decision by the party’s National Executive Committee to allow the use of two different voters’ register in the primary which was delayed for months. According to them, the process leading to the primary had been skewed to benefit Mrs Ekuful
Mr. Tetteh, who had declared his intention to contest Mrs Ekuful and Robert Kwesi Hayfron Nicol, declined to submit himself to be vetted due to the disagreement which his supporters attempted to resolve with a court action.
“Let me appeal to all of them that no matter what happened I think we should leave it and focus on the real challenge that we have and the real reason why we were all elected as constituency polling station executives,” Mrs Ekuful said on 3FM’s flagship programme, Sunrise Monday morning.
She added: “We will also do whatever it takes for our aggrieved brethren to come and join us which we are all hoping for. Our work is for the party and not for any individual, she added”.
Mrs Ekuful who polled 554 votes to beat Mr Nicol who garnered 317 votes, underscored the need for all the members and executives in the constituency to unite and work towards victory in the November 7 general elections.
“I will work for the party and not for any individual and I am urging all of them to respect the party structures and let the party work in the constituency,” she maintained, assured of her resolve to find resources needed for the campaign to win the elections.
