Upper West Police Command deploys police to ensure peaceful Christmas

Wa, Dec 25, GNA- The Upper West Police Command on Monday deployed a total of eighty policemen throughout the region as part of measures to avert misconduct and other negative practices that used to characterize the celebration of Christmas in the region.

The Command has also mobilized seven vehicles that would be on highway patrols to abort all criminal activities before, during and after the yuletide.

Mr. Robert Ayalingo, Upper West Regional Commander of Police who disclosed these in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Monday said more negotiations were being held with other stakeholders to avoid nasty incidents in the region.

“It is normally around this time of the year that all kinds of criminal activities like highway robbery, drinking and overspeeding, fighting and killing happens and it is our duty as peace makers to prevent the annual recurrence of such nasty things”.

He said the policemen would be deployed in Wa, Jirapa, Tumu and other big towns in the region where such incidents were likely to occur and urged the public to conduct themselves well in order not to fall into trouble.

Mr. Ayalingo advised all motorists to limit their speed to avoid the perennial high rate of accidents during Christmas and New Year festivities.

“Last year thankfully, we did not record any nasty incident during this period, and I appeal to you all to make sure that we maintain that clean record into next year”.

The Police Commander appealed for more vehicles to enable them carry out their work successfully and peacefully during the yuletide as the fleet at their disposal was inadequate for an effective operation of this nature.
