THE Upper West Parliamentary caucus has expressed dismay over the recent violent confrontation between the Wa Police and Civilians, leading to the death of an innocent youth and causing injuries to others.
“The caucus sees this as an unfortunate disturbing and unwelcome development in a usually peaceful and law abiding region with no history of Police-Civilian confrontation even in abnormal times”, it said. It also condemned the excessive use of fire arms on innocent people by the police and called on all peace loving Ghanaians to do likewise.
In a press release, signed by Mr Edward K. Salia, leader of the caucus, it expressed it’s condolence to the family of the victim whose death was caused by a trigger-happy policeman and also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
It commended the Regional Security Council (REGSCC), for instituting an investigative committee into the incident and called on the committee to submit its report on the incidence within the given time to ensure justice.
The caucus further called on both the police and the youth to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any further confrontations and it’s consequences.
