Upper West Akyem NDC claims MP is US citizen

Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Akyem constituency want their parliamentary candidate, Joseph Sam Amankwanor, changed.

They allege he holds dual citizenship. Ghana’s laws bar person with dual nationality from running for public office.

Some constituency executives of the NDC have sent a petition to the party demanding the leadership set in motion processes to determine the true nationality of the MP.

Andy Awudja, an executive member and spokesperson of the petitioners, told ClassFMonline.com that credible information available to them indicate that apart from being a Ghanaian, Mr Amankwanor holds American citizenship.

Mr Awudja said if the leadership of the party fails to do anything about their concerns, they will resort to the law courts to seek redress.
