Upper East holds farewell parade for outgoing regional police boss

Bolgatanga, Sept 23, GNA – The Upper East Regional Police on Monday held a farewell parade for its outgoing commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Ofosu-Mensah Gyeabour, who has been reassigned to the Northern Region. He is being replaced by his deputy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hamidu Mahama. Mr. Gyeabour inspected a parade of 60 police personnel, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Seth Tay. The ceremony was attended by other regional heads of the security agencies as well as members of the Regional Security Council. In his remarks, the Upper East Regional Minister, Alhassan Samari, paid tribute to Mr. Gyeabour, saying, his leadership qualities and prowess in handling conflicts at Bawku, Tongo-Boe, and Gonno-Torsin, as well as the Sandema chieftaincy dispute, testified to his tactical knowledge.

Mr. Samari said the stability being enjoyed in the region was the result of untiring contributions of the security agencies, especially the police.

He said the region would continue to rely on the professionalism of the police in the forthcoming general election and tasked the officers to live up to expectation. Mr Samari appealed to members of the public to comport themselves and collaborate with the police when necessary in order to ensure violence free elections. “Our region went through its worst times last year, especially with the protracted Bawku conflict, and so we are in no mood for another unstable moment this time around.” Mr Gyeabour thanked the people in the region for cooperating with his administration.
