Update: Over 45 feared dead in Tamale-Kintampo accident

Close to 48 people are feared dead in a fatal motor accident on the Kintampo – Tamale highway on Wednesday evening.

The accident involved a vehicle carting boxes of tomatoes from Navrongo and a Kumasi bound Metro Mass Transit bus, the police has confirmed.

The accident occurred around 8pm at the Kintampo Waterfalls junction in the Brong Ahafo region.

Several of the passengers with severed body parts were trapped in the mangled bus as the locals struggled to cut the vehicles to retrieve the dead and those alive.

According to the divisional police commander of Kintampo, Chief Superintendent Desmond Owusu Boampong, “a lot of the passengers have been conveyed to the morgue, but I’m not in a position to give you numbers until the operation is over.”

The locals who had to resort to chainsaws to cut the bus in order to reach the trapped passengers believe all the occupants of the Metro Mass perished.

Two people survived the fatal crash at the time of filing this report.
