Unpaid Feeding Grants: Pratt calls for heads to roll

“If upon all the resources we have in our country we do not have enough to provide food for our school children, then we should be sad as a country…” says Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper.

This was in reaction to a news report that 83 Senior High School will delay in reopening as a result of the non-payment of two terms’ feeding subventions owed them by the government.

All the 83 Senior High Schools (SHSs) are in the three regions of northern Ghana: 44 in the Northern Region, 23 in the Upper East Region and 16 in the Upper West Region.

Kwesi Pratt in contributing to a panel discussion on PeaceFM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ bemoaned at how authorities will wait for things to get out of hand before ‘doing something about it’

According to him, “this issue has gone on for a very long time…This is not a matter of NDC versus NPP. Why is it that we get these problems all the time irrespective of the government in power? Clearly there is a major problem; it is not an issue of politics. The fact that it occurred in a previous administration does not mean it should also occur in this current administration. It is a national problem which has to be discussed”

Kwesi Pratt has suggested that instead of playing politics with the issue, those in charge should be disciplined.

“It is time to punish people for doing the wrong thing and making citizens suffer. Heads should roll regardless of any party affiliation…It is time for this country to wake up and it is time for Ghanaians to wake up…There is the need for national reconstruction…getting our priorities right,” he added.
