Union remains united

The rank and file of the Polytechnics branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) have pledged to remain united, saying that, their loyalty to the mother union stands supreme.

They have, therefore, pledged not to align themselves with any group seeking to break away for monetary gains.

Accordingly, they have disassociated themselves from a group purported to form the Association of Polytechnic Workers Union.

These were contained in a statement issued in Accra at the weekend, after a two-day workshop organized by TEWU, for newly-elected executives of the institutions.

It was signed jointly by the Central Executive Committee members of the Polytechnic Local Unions, in the persons of Madam Salamatu Braimah, Chairperson, Abukar Issah, Secretary, Mr Samuel Adu Amankwah, Assistant Secretary, and Mr Emanuel Gbeddy, Trustee.

The statement said: “the mere fact that the group did not assign cogent reasons for their break-away, their hidden agenda calculated to mislead loyal members of TEWU to break the front of the union for their personal gains,” adding that TEWU is a recognized union backed by the Polytechnic Act of 2007 (ACT 745).

“We, therefore, call on the rank and file of TEWU in the 10 Polytechnics, to remain firm and united, by not falling prey to all deceptions calculated to divide our ranks,” the statement cautioned.

“We the local leaders and general members in the Polytechnics remain committed to the course of TEWU, by throwing our weight behind the National Leadership, to continue fighting the course of our rank and file in the Polytechnics,” the statement assured.
