Unemployed threatens to kill father

Koforidua, March 30, GNA-Evans Amoanu, a 28-year-old unemployed, was o= n Wednesday remanded into police custody by a Koforidua Magistrate Court for causing damages and threatening to kill his father. Amoanu, who pleaded guilty to a charge of causing damage and not guilt= y to a charge of threat to death, is to reappear on April 13. Giving the facts of the case, Police Inspector Emmanuel Bronya, told the court presided over by Mrs Cynthia Wiredu that the complainants; Esther Larbi and Mr Emmanuel Tetteh Amoanu, a 101 year-old man and the father of the accused, reside at Korle Nkwanta and Agavenya respectively, all suburbs of Koforidua. He said Amoanu for sometime now had been threatening to kill his fathe= r for squandering the proceeds on a plot of land he sold to Esther at Agavenya.

The prosecutor said in early March this year, the accused chased out the old man with a cutlass from the house and occupied the premises. He said as a result, the old man moved out to join his other son in th= e area. Inspector Bronya said the accused then went to threaten to damage crop= s Esther had planted on her land because according to him, she did not buy th= e plot through genuine means. He said on March 26, Esther visited the site and found out that her crops; plantain, yam, cassava, pepper and coconut had been destroyed. The prosecutor said Esther then reported to the police and Amoanu was arrested and charged with the offences. In court, the accused decided to behave abnormally but the prosecutor told the court that it was strategy he had adopted to be set free. The prosecutor told the court that with permission from the father, Amoanu was sent to the Pantang Psychiatric hospital for examination and the report presented by the doctor revealed that he was normal.
