An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded one Mohammed Abu, unemployed, for robbing a lady’s hand bag containing a mobile phone worth GH¢ 450.00 and GH¢ 100.00.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbing one Mable Aboagyewaa but was remanded by the Court to reappear on August 19.
Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the Court that the complainant is a student midwife while the accused person is unemployed.
He said on August 10, at about 2000 hours, the complainant was walking on the pavement along the street in front of the Legon Mall, when the accused emerged from a bush nearby and snatched her handbag.
The prosecution said the complainant shouted for help but Mohammed forcibly pushed her onto the ground and took away the bag containing the above listed items.
He told the Court that the complainant was able to identify the accused person and made a report to the police.
Chief Inspector Adu said on August 11, whiles investigations was ongoing, a witness in the case was made to dress like a lady and made to walk with a lady’s bag on the same street to lure Mohammed.
He said the accused person unsuspectingly appeared from the same spot, held the witness’ bag and while struggling with her, he was arrested.
The complainant’s bag and other ladies bags he had discarded were also retrieved from the bush.
