Unauthorised speed ramps banned in West Akyem

Asamankese (E/R), Nov. 24, GNA – The West Akyem District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, has ordered communities in the district that had constructed unauthorized speed ramps to remove them immediately.

He noted with concern that unauthorized speed ramps have suddenly gained prominence along main roads in the district in recent times. The DCE, who announced the ban in an address to the District Assembly, at Asamankese on Wednesday, said though some drivers drove beyond the accepted speed limits when in town, communities should not arrogate to themselves the right to construct speed ramps without due regard to the ministry or department responsible for roads.

According to him, statistics indicated that the rate of motor accidents arising out of such speed ramps were increasing in the district and therefore called for the dismantling of the unauthorized speed ramps on roads other than those constructed by the Ghana Highway Authority.
