Ukraine Crisis: Ghanaians call for help

Information reaching GhanaWeb indicates that Ghanaians caught up in the middle of a bomb attack in Lugansk, Ukraine, have been stranded in the middle of the turmoil.

So far hundreds of people have been killed and many wounded in the fight between the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LNR), a city in Ukraine and Kiev forces.

Kiev has admitted showering the eastern Ukrainian city of Lugansk with dozens of missiles from the air, according to a report by rt.com.

A distress call received by GhanaWeb from one Alhassan in Lugansk says phonecalls to the Consulate of Ghana in Kiev and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana are not being answered while they remain in fear.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian Honorary Consul to Ukraine, Dr. Albert Kitcher in a radio interview in April assured the public that Ghanaians in the troubled region are safe.

GhanaWeb reached a government official by phone who indicated that government will follow up on the distress call.
