UK Environment delegation to visit Ghana

Accra, Feb. 1, GNA – The British High Commission announced on Wednesday that a delegation of environmental specialists would visit Ghana from February 5 to February 8.

A statement from the High Commission said Mr Douglas Barnes; the Head of the Environmental Industries Sector Unit (EISU), a division within UK Trade and Investment, would lead the delegation. Mr Barnes stated: “EISU is supporting this programme under the Technology Partnership Initiative (TPI), which seeks to provide information about innovative and appropriate environmental technologies and solutions to rapidly developing and industrialising countries around the world.

“We very much hope that this visit will be the start of a process that will see greater collaboration between environmental companies and organisations in the UK and their counterparts in Ghana.” This delegation is a direct follow-up to Mr Barnes’ previous exploratory visit to Ghana in May 2005.

“The delegation will carry out a programme of site visits and meetings designed to identify areas where British expertise can be shared and partnerships developed, between UK and Ghanaian companies, to help to alleviate Ghana’s environmental pressures,” the statement said. It said the environmental specialists would focus on two key areas of the environment industry – Water & Wastewater Treatment and Municipal Waste Management.
