UEW student remanded for chewing fingers

The Winneba Magistrate court has remanded a 23-year-old level 200 student of University of Education Winneba (UEW) into prison custody for chewing another person’s finger.

Daniel Akombasam pleaded guilty with explanation but court presided over by Mr. Alexander Awore entered a plea of not guilty after the explanation.

Narrating the fact of the case to the court Police Inspector Peter Agbelie said the complainant of the case is a hairdresser and ordinarily resident in Italy while the accused UEW Student lives at Rabbi Sam Junction in Winneba town.

He said on 27th December, 2015 at about 1.30 pm the complainant who was on holidays in the country visited her brother one Justice Quansah’s shop at Rabbi Sam Junction and later decided to visit their family house.

According to the prosecution while the complainant was on her way the accused person came from nowhere and attacked her in an attempt to bite her neck and during the struggle the complainant managed to free herself, but her right little finger got into the accused mouth which he chewed.

Inspector Agbelie, the complainant raised an alarm and passerby came to her rescue whilst Akombasam bolted.

He said the complainant was rushed to Baptist Hospital in Winneba town and later transferred to 37 Military Hospital where a surgical operation was done and the chewed finger was severed

Inspector said, the complainant went back to Italy but on 20th February, 2016, the accused was arrested by some people at his hideout in Winneba town and sent to the police station.

After investigation he was charged for causing harm and arraigned before the court.
