UDS Students call for apology from Wa Central MP over “careless” statement

Students of the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) are calling on Alhaji Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament for Wa Central, to render an unqualified apology to the Authorities and Students of the University over comments he made in regard to their recent Students Representative Council week celebration.

They also called for the apology to be extended to the family of Fredrick Yitah, 28, who died during the celebration.

“The students almost went naked on the streets of Wa misbehaving and out of their carelessness on the road one was run over by a car” Alhaji Pelpuo said on Metro TV “Good Morning Ghana” show hosted by Randy Abbey on Thursday, a statement the students deemed to be very offensive.

Some of the students who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa on Friday described the MP’s statement as unfortunate.

The deceased, who was an employee of the Ghana National Fire Service, (GNFS) was run over by a truck that was carrying the students on a float during the celebration.

He left behind a wife and a kid.

The deceased would be conveyed to his home town, Navrongo in the Kasena-Nankana District on March 16 for burial.**
