The University for Development Studies (UDS), has admitted a total of 4,806 students to pursue various programmes of study in the 2015/2016 academic year.
Out of the total number of students admitted, 461 were to be at the Nyankpala campus, 2,339 at the Wa campus and 616 at the Navrongo campus while the Tamale campus takes 1,348 students.
The University has also admitted 367 students to pursue various post-graduate courses in its four campuses dotted in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions.
Professor Gabriel Ayum Teyeh, Vice Chancellor of UDS in a speech read on his behalf on Saturday during the matriculation ceremony at the Nyankpala Campus, asked the students to consider themselves lucky since the University would train them as critical human resource for the development of the nation.
Prof Teyeh said the University would continue to mount new courses and programmes in pursuit towards academic excellence, noting that a school of engineering has been established to admit students for the 2016/2017 academic year.
He said five programmes would be started for the School of Engineering under the Department of Agriculture Engineering and the Department of Environment, Water and Waste Engineering.
He indicated that the UDS would also embark on Doctor of Pharmacy, Master of Public Health, MSc in Community Disaster Resilience Studies and MSc in Paediatric Nursing in the 2016/2017 academic year.
Prof Teyeh revealed that the UDS has started a collaborative programme with the Galilee International Management Institute of Israel for the training of medical doctors while students after three-years training at UDS would spend two years in Israel and complete the sixth-year at the UDS.
He said the programe starts in January 2016 and admissions are still ongoing and urged prospective students to enroll in the course.
Professor Alhassan Amin, the Dean of the Nyankpala Campus of UDS advised the students to be law abiding since the school is going to be a good home for them.
He said their welfare and academic progression is the major priority of the UDS and entreated them to study hard to be among some of the best products that have been produced by the University.
