U.S fans tip Stars for semis

Ghana’s Black Stars have been tipped by many fans to perform better in South Africa than they did in the 2006 World Cup in German

The Black Stars were rated the best African side in the last World Cup in Germany which was their maiden appearance

They were eliminated from the competition in the second by five time winners Brazil

Among such groups is the Ghanaian community in Columbus, Ohio, in the USA, who have tipped the Black Stars to reach at least the semi-finals of this year’s World Cup being hosted for the first time on the African Continent by South Africa

Gradually the World Cup fever is catching up with them as many have begun purchasing their Ghanaian flags and other paraphernalia awaiting the commencement of the competition especially the Black Stars opening game against Serbia on June 13th.

Interaction with the Ghanaian community in Columbus, Ohio, in the USA, it was evident that majority of them have since last July being postponing their off days at work in a deliberate attempt to accumulate at least fourteen days which they will apply for in June to enable them watch the games especially the Ghana Black stars

According to Messers Edward Okeye Darko and Yaw Awuah Nsiah a.k.a Wofa Yaw ‘Tailor’ all of Columbus Ohio, they cannot afford to miss a game involving the Stars and have therefore put in requests at their various work places to be granted their off-days within the World Cup period in order to watch most of the Stars games at least at the group stages.

Almost every Ghanaian household has purchased at least a Ghanaian flag from nearby African shops awaiting the start of the competition to fly them.

On her part, Madam Cynthia Owusu Boateng, who has joined the Ghanaian community in Columbus, Ohio, from her Chicago base disclosed that they are planning erecting a giant screen in front of one of the African shops during the Stars match days as they intend to watch the games in large numbers.

“In fact every Ghana match day will be a carnival for us and how I wish the Black Stars go all the way to the semi-finals in South Africa”.

“Should they make it to the last four then trust me the Ghanaian community will be inviting a section of them to party with us in December” she added.
