Two women before court for attempted abortion

Drobo (B/A), Feb. 4, GNA – A Magistrate Court at Drobo in the Jaman South District of Brong Ahafo has remanded two women into prison custody in Sunyani for their involvement in the abortion of a three-months-old pregnancy of a 19-year-old girl.

Beatrice Ama Brago lives with her husband at Abuokrom in the district, whilst Yaa Kuruwa lives at Faaman. Their plea was not taken.

Meanwhile, the police are looking for a man, known only as Kwaku, also a native of Abuokrom, who was alleged to have administered a concoction to the girl.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector S. O. Asamoah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Kofi Solomon, that the victim lived with the parents at Faaman, near Drobo.

He said on January 11 this year, Yaa brought the victim, who had approached her for help to terminate her pregnancy, to Abuokrom. The two women took the girl to Kwaku, a self-styled “caesarean session physician”, who with their assistance inserted a concoction into her vagina. The following day the girl fell into a coma and was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital at Drobo, where she has since been on admission.
