Two sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing

The Winneba District Magistrate Court has sentenced a 23-year-old man to six months in prison for unlawful entry and stealing.

Emmanuel Sey, who is unemployed, pleaded guilty on count one but not guilty on count two but he was convicted and sentenced accordingly on each count to run concurrently to serve the full six months.

Emmanuel Bonney alias Excoba, a friend of Sey and also unemployed, pleaded guilty for dishonestly receiving and the Court presided over by Mr Alexander Oworae sentenced him as well to six months imprisonment.

Prosecution Police Inspector Peter Agbelie narrating the facts of the case said Mr Nyanor, a student of the University of Education-Winneba is the complaint of the case while Sey and Bonney are friends who reside in Winneba.

He said on 3rd February 2016 while the complainant left the house for lectures, the convict managed to open his door, entered the room and took away his E-machine, Palmtop Computer, Nokia Lumia Mobile Phone and cash of GH¢ 160.00.

Inspector Agbelie said Sey sensing danger, gave the E-machine to Bonney go and give it to the complainant; and Bonney on receiving the machine failed to release it, but rather demanded one hundred and twenty Ghana Cedis from the complainant before he would do as requested.

Inspector Agbelie said the complainant did not understand why he should pay for his own stolen property before handing it over to him.

He said the complainant reported the matter to the police and both accused persons were arrested.

He said more items were retrieved from Bonney and after investigations they were arraigned before the Court charged with the stated offences
