Two minors to serve 30 years for defilement

Tarkwa (W/R), April 7, GNA – Two fourteen-year-old boys from Prestea and Brahabebome near Tarkwa were sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment each by a circuit court at Tarkwa for defilement. The Court, presided over by Mr Ajet Nasam, ordered them to serve the sentences at the Accra Borstal Institute.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Alex Asamoah of the Tarkwa Police said one of the convicts, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) One pupil of the Prestea Experimental (JSS), on March 31, this year, at around 21 hours lured the victim into to his room and defiled her.

The girl, a class five pupil of the Prestea D/C Primary School, struggled with the convict and shouted for help but nobody went to her rescue.

After her ordeal, she went home to reported to her parents and he was arrested.

In the second case, Chief Inspector Asamoah said the accused, on March 22, at about 2:30 hours, invited a five-year-old girl who was returning from school with her brothers and told them that their mother, who was buying coconut nearby had asked him to bring the girl along. Unknown to her, the little girl followed her assailant who dragged her into a nearby pen and stripped her naked. When the girl refused to lye down, he threatened to call a stray dog to bite her.

The threat calmed down the girl and the convict began to remove her clothes but the girl’s cry of fear caught the attention of a man who was going close to the pen to urinate. The man rushed onto the scene only for the convict to run away. He went into hiding but was, however, arrested by the police upon a tip-off.
