Twifo District Assembly approves more funds for projects

Twifo Praso (C/R), Aug. 18, GNA- The Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly, at the end of its second ordinary meeting at Twifo-Praso on Tuesday, approved a supplementary budget of 5.6 billion cedis for projects in the area.

About 1.6 billion cedis would be spent on new projects, like the extension of electricity to more communities, HIV/AIDS and malaria programmes and the establishment of an education fund.

Presenting the budget for approval, Reverend Ben Donkor, Presiding Member of the Assembly, said the remaining amount, would be spent on the completion of on-going projects, including a science resource centre, rehabilitation of the boys’ dormitory at the Jukwa Secondary School and a kindergarten at Hemang.

Rev. Donkor announced that monies from this year’s allocation for the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) would be used for the construction of a soap factory as part of the Rural Enterprise Development Project (REDP). He said the assembly has received a total of 4.9 billion cedis as its share of the common fund this year.
