Twenty-eight steps to treatment challenged

Mampong (Ash), Sept 25, GNA – The 28 steps that out-patients at Asante Mampong follow in their treatment and medication is counter productive, a US resource person on health has observed at Manpong on Friday.

Miss Ingrid Johnson, the resource person, then demonstrated the corrective measure by assisting the staff of the Out-Patient Department (OPD) to follow 20 steps of administering treatment as against the usual 28 steps.

Miss Johnson gave this advise at a leadership workshop, organised and sponsored by General Electricals (GE), aimed at assisting the various District Hospitals including the Mampong Hospital to achieve their set goals through good management practices. She noted that the 20 steps process to treatment could further be reduced to about 10, to make the hospital more clients friendly. About 30 Senior Administrative Personnel drawn from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Kumasi, Mampong and Ejura Hospitals attended the workshop.

They were taken through topics on communication, affective coaching and creation of dynamic team. Miss Wendy Trevil, also a resource person, urged the participants to change the status quo at their various hospitals without confronting culture to meet their set target.

She said her organization had drawn up innovative programmes for efficient and effective management of the Mampong Hospital. Miss Trevil commended the management staff of the Mampong Hospital for taking good care of the two generators, water systems and theatre equipment among others, which her organisation presented to the Hospital some years ago.

Dr Emmanuel Ahiable, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Mampong Hospital accepted the challenge for a change, to bolster the realisation of the Hospital’s set objectives.
