Trotro driver jailed for motor offences

Tema, Sept 14, GNA – An Ashaiman trotro driver has been jailed for 20 days by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ for various motor offences. Hayford Akyea pleaded guilty to picking and dropping passengers at an unauthorised place, causing a traffic jam and dangerous driving. Police Inspector Ben Agbedanu, told the court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on August 25 this year, the accused stopped at an unauthorised place for some passengers to alight and others to board his vehicle.

Inspector Agbedanu said motorbike riders from the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, on their usual road checks at the Tema Business Centre, spotted the accused. In an attempt to evade arrest, the accused person moved his vehicle dangerously and the Police had to give him a chase before arresting him, the prosecution said.

Mr Teye observed that since drivers paid fines imposed on them with ease, he had decided to sentence Akyea to a prison term to serve as a deterrent.
