Transport Union to fight cholera

Mr Robert Sarbah, Greater Accra Chairman of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has called on Ghana Health Service (GHS) to collaborate with the Union to formulate guidelines to fight the cholera outbreak

He said the collaboration should include the fumigation of commercial vehicles that carry cholera patients to the hospitals.

He said: “As drivers and partners, we owe it a duty to compliment Government efforts in ensuring the health and safety of the public but unfortunately acceptable guidelines have not been put in place.”

Mr Sarbah made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Accra at the weekend.

He called for coordination between the Disease Control Unit of GHS and GPRTU to contain the spread of cholera.

Mr Sarbah said the outbreak of the disease demands special strategy with the view of improving sanitation standards among the people.
