Trader remanded for defiling 14-year-old girl

Kumasi, Sept. 6, GNA – A circuit court in Kumasi has remanded Michael Acquah, an 18-year-old trader for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old class six pupil.

Acquah pleaded not guilty and he will re-appear before the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosah on September 11. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Appiah-Sakyi told the court that the accused lived at South Suntreso while the victim and her mother also lived at Krofrom, all suburbs of Kumasi. He said on August 28 this year, around 1700 hours the victim went to the Kumasi Central Market to buy a pair of jeans trousers but did not realize that the trouser could not fit her until she got home. ASP Appiah-Sakyi said the victim decided to return the pair of trousers to the seller but after a fruitless search she did not find the person and was about to give up when she met Acquah. The prosecution said the accused after hearing the victim’s story convinced her and took her to his house at Suntreso under the pretext of replacing the trousers. At his house, Acquah proposed love to the victim after serving her with food and later f orcibly had sex with her amidst threats, the prosecution said. ASP Appiah-Sakyi said the victim’s resistance in the form of shouts attracted a passer-by who forced the door open and found the accused having sex with the victim and raised the alarm. The accused was arrested and the victim’s mother was contacted. She made a report to the police and after investigations the accused was charged.
