Trader jailed for stealing phone

A Winneba Magistrate Court has sentenced a 21 year trader to three months in prison in hard labour for stealing one HTC Mobile Phone valued at 600.00 Ghana Cedis.

David Afful, a native of Gomoa EkumKroom near Agona Swedru pleaded guilty to the charge.

Narrating the facts of the case before the court presided over by Mr. Mr. Alexander Oworae, The prosecution reprsented by Police Inspector Peter Agbelie said, the complainant of the case is Miss Victoria Akwaah, hairdressing apprentice at Winneba.

He said 3rd June 2016, at about 9,00am, the accused was passing –by in the front of the complainant’s shop and spotted the mobile phone on a table in the shop he then sneaked into the shop, picked the mobile phone and took to his heels.

Inspector Agbelie said the complainant raised alarm and Afful was arrested by by people around and handed over to the police together with the mobile phone.

The prosecution said in Afful’s caution statement he admitted the offence and after investigations he was arraigned before the court.

The Mobile Phone has since been handed over to the complainant.
