Tourism To Be Made Largest Employer

The Ministry of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City had drawn up a strategic action plan with the vision of generating 20 per cent growth by the year 2007. Mr Abu-Bakre Saddique, Deputy Minister of the sector has disclosed.

Under the plan, he said tourism would be made the largest employer after agriculture and retailing as well as increasing tourist arrival from present 530,000 to one million. With corresponding increase in foreign exchange from the present 500 million dollars to 1.5 billion dollars in 2007.

Mr. Saddique was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Annual National Religious and Historical Festival of the Methodist Church dubbed “METHOFEST” held in Accra last Friday.

The three-day event was themed “A Healthy Church for National Reconstruction, the Role of Religious Tourism”.
