Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, at the weekend launched a novel titled: “the Sacrificial Lambs” written by Dr Mrs Charity Afua Boateng, a Lecturer in Communication.
The Minister who is also a member of the Ghana Writers Association asked Ghanaians to be proud of their country and urged all to serve the nation rather than seeking greener pastures.
She appealed to the youth who wish to travel abroad in search for greener pastures to get back on track and purchase a copy of the “Sacrificial Lambs “and read before they embark on such journeys.
Madam Gomashie noted also that Ghana has diverse cultures, which attract tourists who come to visit “to see the way we dress, sing, dance and watch our beautiful huts in the villages.
She therefore urged Ghanaians not to throw away their culture and imbibe the foreign ones, adding that “what we need as Ghanaians is to cherish what we have”.
Dr Boateng, who lectures at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Accra said the novel depicts very excruciating experiences some travellers who want to seek greener pastures abroad often face, which relatives back at home do not know and think their so called relatives enjoy more in the advanced countries.
The novel cautions the youth to refrain from travelling abroad thinking they would easily become rich and urged them to remain in the country to enhance the growth of the economy.
Dr Mrs Akua Amoako, Director of Administration of UPSA commended Dr Boateng for the novel, adding that she has added knowledge to the society.
Mr Agbenyegah Akaho, a Development Officer from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dodowa, bought the first autographed book at GH¢ 1,000 whilst about 30 copies were sold out.
Dr Boateng had her First Degree in English Language in 1998 from the University of Ghana Legon, She read Masters of Art English in 2002 at the University of Ghana Legon and pursued a Doctorate in Communication from the Atlantic International University in Hawaii in the United States, in 2014.
