Tema, Oct. 08, GNA – The Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) is reviving links with its sister city, San Diego in California to promote the development of schools in the area.
Mr Samuel Evans Ashong Narh, TMA Chief Executive, said a cultural exchange programme would be drawn to the benefit of schools in the Municipality and to show case the nation’s cultural heritage to the outside world.
He was receiving learning materials including novels, note pads, pens/pencils and toothpastes and brushes donated by the San Deigo/Tema Sister City Society to Padmore Primary School at Community one, Tema. Mr Narh said TMA has established a “Sister City Desk” to revitalize the relations between the Assembly and San Diego City that existed 18 years ago.
He said TMA had links with the London Borough, where pupils and students of Tema Star Basic and Tema Secondary schools visited yearly, under an exchange programme.
Mr Narh said London Borough has donated computers and theirs accessories to the schools.
Madam Vivian Amanor, chairman of the Tema/San Diego Sister Society at Tema, made the presentation on behalf of her mother society. She commended Mrs Olivia Laryea a member of the Society, for making the donation possible and gave the promise that the Society would make more donations for other schools to benefit.
Madam Margaret Mavis Sackey, head teacher of the school, expressed gratitude to the donors, saying that the donation would enhance the pupils’ education.
