TMA members fail to elect PM

Tema, Nov 8, GNA – After three rounds of voting the 80-member Tema Municipal Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a Presiding Member because none of the four contestants was able to get the two-thirds majority of the votes cast as required by law.

The contestants were Mrs Gladys Naadu Tetteh, Assembly Member for Sutsurunaa electoral area, Mr Kingsley Kwame Appiah, Ottanor electoral area, Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Nanmomo and Mr Seth Laryea Tetteh, a government appointee.

During the first round of voting Mrs Naadu Tetteh, won 7 votes out of the 80 votes cast whilst Mr Appiah, won 2 votes Mr Baidoo, won 39 votes whiles Mr Laryea won 26 votes.

Before the second round Mrs Tetteh and Mr Kwame Appiah stepped down and after the voting Mr Baidoo and Mr Laryea Tetteh who won 41 votes and 35 votes respectively.

Since none of them gained the two thirds majority a third round was required during which Mr Laryea Tetteh had 39 votes as against 37 won by Ibrahim Baidoo. The election was adjourned indefinitely.
