Three sentenced for indiscriminate disposal of human excreta

Hohoe, Aug. 18, GNA – Three persons, Efua Attah and two others whose names were given only as Mansah and Dadaa at Hohoe, were on Monday slapped with a fine of GH¢30 cedis each by a Hohoe Magistrate court for indiscriminate disposal of human

excreta. The three, who all pleaded guilty, would serve a

six-month jail sentence in hard labour in default. The presiding magistrate, Ms Janet Awo Bakudie,

ordered them to pay the fines to the Hohoe Municipal Assembly. Mr Anson Yevu, a staff of the Hohoe Municipal Environmental

Health Office, told the court that, a house-to-house inspection

conducted in the Municipality on May 28, this year identified

wrapped polythene bags containing human excreta in the area. Some of these polythene bags, he said, were buried in the

vicinity where the culprits live and were therefore warned and

educated against the practice. Mr Yevu said, the culprits, who lived in house number H/N AH

3-L-32 at Ahado, however, persisted in the practice which led to

their arrest and prosecution. 18 Aug. 08
