Three hunters remanded for murder

Bekwai (Ash), June 13, GNA – Three farmers who appeared before an Asante Bekwai Circuit Court on a provisional charge of murder have been remanded. They are Kwadwo Owusu, 28, Kofi Mensah, 34, and Kwabena Charles, 28.

The fourth suspect, Kwasi Domi, is on the run. Their pleas were not taken and they would re-appear on June 20. Police Chief Inspector H.H. Lumor told the court that Akwasi Peter, a hunter at Aboabo near Jacobu went on a hunting expedition on June 03 and shot a deer but he could not find the animal.

He returned to the village and informed Owusu who in turn told Mensah, Charles and Domi to go and assist Peter to look for the animal. The Prosecutor said after an extensive search that lasted for hours, they located the deer but it was not dead as Peter had thought. The animal escaped into a thicket but the group forced it to emerge from its hideout and Owusu shot at it.

Just then, Peter screamed, “You have killed me.” He had been shot in the chest and the friends took him to hospital but he died on the way.
