Thoroughly probe SSNIT operations – Majority

The Majority in Parliament is calling for a thorough investigation into the operations of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) following reports that the institution’s IT head landed the job using fake documents.

Dr. Caleb Afaglo has been interdicted by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office for presenting fake academic credentials to land the top job.

Dr. Afaglo had indicated that he had a BSC and MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PHD from the Kennedy Western University.

Prior to his appointment at SSNIT, Dr Afaglo had worked as IT consultant for the Trust, National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and at MTN Ghana and Action Chapel International as the Data Services Supervising Engineer.

SSNIT is already receiving massive backlash for paying a whopping 72 million dollars to procure a faulty software from 2012 to 2016.

Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu speaking to Journalists said SSNIT must be blamed solely for failing to follow due process in its recruitment process.

According to the Suame MP immediate investigations must be conducted to purge the system of potential cronyism.

“How was it that SSNIT was not able to detect this, how was it possible that we are not able to detect that this man has gone for employment somewhere and was found out and thrown out.

“Was it attributable to some cronyism?. So we should find a way of improving the recruitment system to purge it of cronyism and all that,” Mr. Mensah Bonsu said.
