The poor will be our concern – Mills

Bolgatanga, July 13, GNA – Professor John Evans Atta Mills, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday told the people of Bolgatanga that the welfare of the individual would be his major concern when he becomes the president.

“In sharing the national cake, we would start with those who do not have and make sure that people who cannot afford decent meals nor afford kerosene to light their homes at night would be comfortable,” he said.

Professor Mills, who was speaking at a party rally in Bolgatanga, as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East Region, said the NDC was going to win the December 2004 elections in a fair and peaceful manner. He urged the people to be tolerant of the views of others and not to take the insults of members of rival political parties seriously. He noted that cost of living had become unbearable, since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) came to power, citing some basic commodities that had become too expensive as compared to the NDC era.

Talking on corruption, Professor Mills said the “Zero Tolerance’ syndrome seemed to have been forgotten of and that corruption was still rife at all sectors of the national economy.

He said the NDC came to power on the wings of positive change and still stands by it, to make life meaningful for Ghanaians.

Accompanied by some party officials, Professor Mills was on a three-day campaign trail, visiting all the district capitals and some selected communities in the Upper East Region.
