The Teachers and Educational Workers? Union (TEWU) has become the latest union in the educational sector to make demands on government for improved service conditions.
The union has given government up to the end of this month to grant vice chancellors the mandate to resume negotiations on their service conditions.
TEWU?s threat follows similar demands by the Polytechnic Teachers? Association of Ghana and the just-ended strike by graduate teachers.
The First National Vice Chairman of TEWU, Peter Lumor says the bargaining agreement for their condition of service expired three months ago but negotiations for a new one have stalled.
?The case of the polytechnics is even worse. The conditions of service expired last year and they have not been given the opportunity to use their collective bargaining right to negotiate,? he said.
Over the years, TEWU has embarked on several industrial actions, demanding improved service conditions and it seems this year might not be an exception.
Mr. Lumor blames the government for this.
