Ten babies born at hospitals in Kwahu on Christmas day

Ten babies, including two sets of twins, were born at two health facilities in the Nkawkaw area, in the Eastern Region, on Tuesday, Christmas day.

With the exception of one birth, which was through caesarean operation, the rest of the babies made up of seven females and three males were born through normal means.

Eight of the babies, including the two sets of twins, were born at the Holy Family Hospital with the other two babies born at the Kwahu Government Hospital.

Ms Mary Adjei, the Midwifery Superintendent in charge of the Holy Family Hospital, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all the babies were healthy and had normal weight.

She advised pregnant women to avoid giving birth at home because it could lead to bleeding and other complications, to help reduce maternal deaths in the country.

Mrs Gloria Wiafe, Midwife on duty at the Kwahu Government Hospital, also asked expectant mother to give birth at hospitals since the National Health Insurance Scheme caters for deliveries free of charge throughout the country.
