Two thousand, Nine Hundred and twelve deaths, consisting of 1,671 males, 1,241 females, and 193 infants, were recorded in Tema in last year by the Births and Death Registry.
Out of the total figure, 2,587 were registered at the Tema General Hospital office of the Registry, while the Tema main and Kpone offices recorded 299, and 26 respectively.
Madam Degbor, Tema Metropolitan Director of Birth and Death Registry, explained that majority of the deaths registered occurred at the hospital.
She said her outfit also registered 19,871 births comprising 10,574 males and 9,297, females respectively.
Out of the 19,871 births, 12,704 were children aged below one year. Two of them had mothers between 10 years and 14 years.
Madam Degbor explained that despite her outfit’s challenges they were able to mobilized
GH¢ 146, 660 into the consolidated fund.
The monies accrued from late registrations of births and deaths, searches, exportation and importation of deaths.
