Teenager remanded for illegal possession of firearm

Kumasi, March 14, GNA – Inusah Bawah, 18, charged with illegal possession of firearm and stealing, has been remanded in police custody by a Kumasi circuit court.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on Wednesday, March 30, this year.

Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah told the Court, presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh, that Bawah, a school dropout, lived in the same house with the mother at Aboabo Number One in Kumasi. She said all attempts by the family to persuade the accused to go back to school failed, as he preferred associating with known hardened criminals.

Chief Inspector Kesewah said on March 5, Bawah stole the mother’s cellular phone valued at 1.2 million cedis and sold it for 500,000 cedis with which he purchased a locally manufactured pistol.

When confronted by the mother, he pulled the pistol and threatened to shoot her.
