Ghanaian midfielder Leonard Owusu finally got off the mark for the season as his second-half strike earned Fredrikstad a crucial 1-1 draw against HamKam in the Norwegian top flight.
The 28-year-old came off the bench to make an instant impact, scoring the equaliser midway through the second half to help his side avoid a third straight defeat on matchday 24.
Fredrikstad had fallen behind just before the break when HamKam opened the scoring in the 44th minute. But Owusu, introduced right after halftime, sparked life into the home side’s attack. His persistence paid off in the 70th minute when he reacted quickest to a rebound, slotting home to level the score.
Despite late pressure from Fredrikstad, they couldn’t find a winner, and the game ended in a stalemate. The result, however, brought a sense of relief to the team, who had suffered consecutive losses to Brann and Oslo in recent weeks.
Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi also featured for Fredrikstad, playing the full 90 minutes in a solid defensive display.
The draw leaves Fredrikstad sitting 10th on the league table with six games left to play in the 2025 season.
Owusu’s goal, his first of the campaign could prove timely as Fredrikstad aim to finish strong and push into the top half of the standings.
