Teenager launches book on HIV/AIDS

Accra, May 7, GNA – An eleven-year old Junior Secondary School pupil of Kpando, Ms. Joan Enyo Simpson on Saturday gave the world a window of opportunity and hope in the fight against the menace of HIV/AIDS with a launch of a book, “How Afua Escaped HIV.” The seven-chapter book, illustrates the dangers of the pandemic and challenges governments, health professionals and religious bodies to adopt a more concerted action on prevention through abstinence. Little Enyo Simpson also sought to provoke policymakers to identify effective ways of facilitating the implementation of preventive programmes on a broad scale in the developing world, especially the hamlets.

Explaining the reason for daring to write on such difficult health problem, Ms Joan Enyo Simpson said a Catholic Father challenged, encouraged and stir her up to write the book. She said, “It all started one day when Reverend Father visited our home and saw me doing an assignment. “The Reverend Father decided to give me a test which passed very successfully, this little test continued for sometime, then Father asked me to write a short story.

“When I started it was difficulty to meet Father’s deadline so I manufactured excuses anything the Father called at our home just to avoid him until finally I completed the story. Ms Enyo Simpson said when Father read it; he was happy and helped me to publish it.

Most of the people at the launch commended little Enyo Simpson for the interest. 07 May 05
